‘Community’ Returns to NBC!!!

I am ecstatic!! As a recent new fan of the show ‘Community’ (it’s part of my catch-up to media watch list), I got hooked and was severely disappointed to hear the show had been put on hiatus (not to mention that I still can’t watch season 2 on Netflix, but that’s another story …). And how did I find out? Through one of my Twitter followers and I immediately retweeted, then this morning, this article ‘Community’ on NBC Returns to NBC on March 15, Twitter Celebrates came out on Mashable about it.
Was it the power of the fans and the flash mobs that made NBC put the show back on the air? Networks are now forced to sit up and take notice of the loyal niche followings of shows that more often than not, don’t perform well as measured by traditional means.
The loyal community (not the show, the fans around a show) - these viewers - are much more relevant, measurable (and of course monetizable) than the generic Neilsen measured viewers. Proof, in my eyes, of the power of a loyal, engaged and outspoken community around an entertainment IP, which, if engaged properly, can literally become a fighting army for your show/film/brand.
Way to go ‘Community’! Now I just need to find a way to catch up by March 15th, without resorting to illegal downloading…
