The Viscera Film Festival is coming to Toronto!

Here’s an exciting bit of news from the Curio Media camp — and it’ll be the first of a series of new initiatives we have been working on!  Next month, May 15th, will be the Toronto screening of the Viscera Film Festival, organized by Curio Media, in collaboration with Fright Nights, presented by Fangoria.  Toronto is going to get it’s first screening of this all-woman directed series of short films that were such a big hit in Vancouver.  Stay tuned for more news about the special guests that will be on-hand that night for the Q&A to follow.

Congratulations To Vancouver Viscera Filmmakers

Last night’s screening of the 2012 Viscera Film Festival in Vancouver - and Curio Media’s inaugural event - was a resounding success, and the audience really appreciated “female response horror”.  

Many thanks go out to special guest host Fiona Forbes, the filmmakers who attended - Karen Lam and Lori Bowen, and our sponsors Super Channel and Pac Blue Printing.  We also send our thanks to The Rio Theatre for hosting the screening, and IRL Events for their help promoting and spreading the word.  

The films were judged by Bill Hurst, Telefilm Canada Executive, and Rachel Talalay, producer and director, amongst other films, of Freddy’s Dead and Tank Girl.

This is the beginning of something special, and Curio Media is proud to bring you Viscera Film Festival, and soon, even more genre short films, feature films and television series - created by women.  Their talent in horror filmmaking is understated and underestimated.  

As last night’s event proved, the films raise the bar for indie filmmakers and showcase the true potential for new voices and new visions.  This is what genre is meant to be.

This Friday - Friday the 13th - Vancouver will host the Western Canadian premiere of the Viscera Film Festival. Presented by Curio Media, a new media company that produces, distributes and promotes female filmmakers in horror, sci-fi and dark fantasy, it’s a festival unlike anything Vancouver has seen before.  I’m proud to announce the festival, and Curio Media, as it is my newest endeavor, and company.  The 3+ hour event will screen 16 short horror films, which will be selected for awards by a jury that includes Tank Girl director, Rachel Talalay.  And the audience will have a chance to speak with some of the filmmakers during a Q&A Finale. You can buy advance tickets and join the conversation on the Facebook event page, or on Yelp.
